Sustainability is fast turning into the need of the hour, and we at BIPS-one among the

, take immense responsibility towards the environment. As part of our school, we not just take initiatives, but thoughtful initiatives that teach the students something about sustainability while influencing them to act as well. As education breeds the next generation with the motive of protecting the environment, we at BIPS believe in building a better future.


In this blog, we talk about what BIPS undertakes towards sustainability and how its students can be an active part of such initiatives.


School's Commitment towards Sustainability

BIPS is a proud constituent of the leading five schools in Patiala that strongly believe in inculcating sustainability in every activity in school life. Consequently, some of our initiatives include the following:


Campus Design Eco Friendly

Our school buildings are designed to reduce energy consumption with sufficient natural light and fresh air ventilation. This helps save electricity, making the learning environment healthier for the students.


Waste Management Programs

BIPS has a strict waste segregation program. Biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste bins are available at strategic points on campus. We also encourage the use of reusable containers and bottles to reduce plastic waste.

Energy Conservation

The school has put in energy-efficient lighting systems like LED lights. There are motion sensors fitted in classes and corridors for lights and fans so that they start automatically when no one is around and switch off in the presence of people.

Water Conservation

The school has rainwater harvesting systems installed to collect and recycle water. Drip irrigation has also been inducted to ensure plants have enough water without waste by too much water.

Plantation Drives

We also hold frequent tree-planting activities in the campus, keeping our institution green and vibrant. It is not only an effort to make the school beautiful, but it also reduces the carbon footprint in some way.


Environmental Awareness Education

We educate the students from a tender age about the concept of sustainability through specific lessons, workshops, and guest lectures, wherein issues like recycling, resource conservation, and the perils of pollution are covered.

Ways for the Students to Participate

Action is more than a policy; for BIPS students, it's also about being an active participant, making their school and community more sustainable.


1. Participating in Green Clubs

There's the school's eco-club that comes up with activities including cleanliness drives, recycling projects, and awareness campaigns. The student can easily get involved in the club and learn from it while making a direct impact.


2. The 3Rs: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle practice


This is also an excellent opportunity to encourage the students to carry their lunch boxes, water bottles, and school bags that are refillable and reusable. It is also a great time to involve the students in collecting old newspapers, books, and plastic wastes for proper disposal or use.


3. Engaging in Tree Planting Activities

BIPS encourages tree-planting, where students can plant and maintain trees. This can educate the students on how plants can be some of the best allies in combating climate change.


4. Impact at Home

All these activities impact their own home environment. Students are encouraged and equipped to take care of their environment at home

The students are encouraged to start some basic habits, such as turning the light off when a person leaves a room, saving water while brushing teeth and trying their best to use public transport or carpool so that emissions will be conserved.


5. Innovative Projects

BIPS encourages students to come up with innovative projects in science fairs and exhibitions where the projects focus on environmental solutions. Some students have created compost bins for organic waste, while others have made models using solar power.


6. Awareness Campaigns

Regular rallies and campaigns against pollution, scarcity of water, and climate change create responsible citizens who love their surroundings.

Community Clean-Up Drives: Our students and staff have cleaned public parks and roads, thereby demonstrating the importance of cleanliness.

Awards on Green Practice: The environmental club recently offered an award to the BIPS based on its innovative green practices .
